CVE-2016-4470
Publication date 27 June 2016
Last updated 25 August 2025
Ubuntu priority
Cvss 3 Severity Score
Description
The key_reject_and_link function in security/keys/key.c in the Linux kernel through 4.6.3 does not ensure that a certain data structure is initialized, which allows local users to cause a denial of service (system crash) via vectors involving a crafted keyctl request2 command.
From the Ubuntu Security Team
It was discovered that the keyring implementation in the Linux kernel did not ensure a data structure was initialized before referencing it after an error condition occurred. A local attacker could use this to cause a denial of service (system crash).
